Anticipation…

Cape d’Or, 2021

The rainy day yesterday led to a light dusting of snow overnight. While scrolling through images I was drawn to the one featured today.

It was created on a warm November day last year. For me it holds the promise of warmer days, calmer days and days that bring peace, better health for all and joy.

Sunday blessings to all! Anna

Rays of Hope

The view from Clarke Head, Cape Blomidon in the distance

I captured this image about ten weeks ago. It was late 2021, a moody day with constant light changes presented me with this mesmerizing vista.

I found myself behind seaweed covered boulders just in time for the sun to push through the clouds to illuminate the waters of the Minas Basin

May this day be filled with special glimpses of light when you least expect them. Best wishes, Anna

Gilbert Hill Vista

One of the best places in the Parrsboro area to watch the sunset would be from Gilbert Hill. With Cape Split in the distance, Partridge Island illuminated by the setting sun this view takes my breath away every time.

The day I witnessed the setting of the sun the full reward came after the golden sphere slipped beyond the horizon. The sky was painted in the most vivid colours, truly a breathtaking moment.

Happy Monday everyone! May your week be filled with beauty and wonder. Peace to all, Anna

Into the Distance

It’s Sunday and we have been blessed by another “snow into rain” event. It is the kind of day that I love to browse through my recent photographs to select those that have touched me the most.

The natural window featured today is one of those special captures that call for a pause and complete and utter acceptance of that exact moment. I recall the waves lapping at my boots only a meter away, a gentle sound, soothing and gratifying.

I vividly remember the diffused light providing golden tones dancing on the waters of the Bay of Fundy.

A pause like this always marks a mental and physical reset for me. With so much upheaval in the world it’s important to stop, inhale and let go. I sincerely hope you are safe, warm and secure on this first Sunday in March 2022, Anna

No matter how chilly it is…

…an afternoon walk at First Beach is invigorating and lifts the spirit. After the walk we took a drive out toward Black Rock where Cape Split was beckoning across the bay. My friend Laura had some wisdom to share “a storm is coming when the sun drinks from the ocean…”

Happy Friday, everyone! Anna

Sunshine…

…always casts a bit of magic on the ice shards moving around the Parrsboro Aboiteau. On Tuesday I felt the promise of Spring in the air.

Yesterday and today we have had a reset to winter… with snow and cooler temperatures.

I will keep my hopes up that the sun returns before too long. Those icicles are a sight to behold and they tell me that warmer days are ahead.

Enjoy your Thursday, wherever you are. It’s a great day for me to catch up with things around the house.

Best wishes, Anna

And we’re off! Parrsboro’s Walking Group is now active!

After a glorious, sunny day yesterday we witnessed icicles melting from rooftops…

…but we woke up to four inches of fluffy snow today. Messages and emails arrived from 7:30 onward to ask if the walk was still taking place. I am not one to shirk commitments and since I had no idea who might just drop by to check out the group I thought I’d better not stay home.

Part of the NSWalks Leader’s responsibility is to scout the route and fill in an assessment sheet. I had walked the route yesterday and the road was bare. This morning I decided to check the route once again. I left home at 9 am and was pleasantly surprised that the sidewalks had been cleared. There was no ice build up which made the decision to follow through on the walk easy.

I had heard from 15 potential participants by Tuesday afternoon… 5 committed walkers showed up! I am so proud of today’s walkers. These women and men show such commitment and enthusiasm. I am confident that the group will grow once the snow melts away. Thanks to all who ventured out this morning despite school closures and late openings for some local businesses.

If you live close to Parrsboro and would like to check us out, drop by the Bandstand on Wednesday mornings at 10 am and join in.

Looking forward to meeting you, Anna

Catching the Sunrise

I always feel encouraged and uplifted when the sunrise is without clouds. This view from our living room window never gets old.

In an uncertain world a sunrise like this provides us with hope for health and peace, love, adventure and creativity.

Best wishes, Anna

Diligent River Beach

Last Thursday gifted us with sun and blue sky, the perfect conditions to lure me outside. I was thankful for my -40C rated winter coat as the breeze was very chilly.

Ever the optimist, when setting out for this beach excursion, I was hoping for the wind to die down as we made our way closer to the beach but it wasn’t meant to be. The trail was covered in iced-over snow and cleats were necessary.

We even had to walk around a large evergreen downed during one of the winter storms. Once we arrived at the salt marsh I knew that we would be rewarded soon…

One cannot help but exhale fully to let go of the world’s troubles after emerging from the walk though the woods. What a view! Ahhhhh….

The beach presented its familiar treasures which always add enjoyment for the senses.

And this time the cliffs demanded closer inspection of its hidden treasures, impressive icicles that were dripping and sparkling in sunlight reaching into their cool caves.

The hike out through the woods back to the car was equally inspiring. The light was intriguing with winter-bare trees reaching high out of the snow toward the azure sky.

Much too soon we reached the car but once we closed the doors it became clear how chilly this outing really was.

Thanks for tuning in today. Enjoy your Sunday. Stay safe, gather your loved ones around you and give them a longer hug as the peace of so many has been shattered. Best wishes, Anna

Soley’s Cove Sea Stack in the Mist

Remember my post from the fog-shrouded Parrsboro Lighthouse? On the way home from Truro we took Soley Cove Road at the foot of Economy Mountain. My friends who travelled with me had not been here before but were very happy I shared this little side-excursion and vista with them.

Enjoy the mysterious images. Happy Friday, friends. Best wishes, Anna

Magical Fog

Following a night of heavy rain I made my way to Truro yesterday. On the way home fog was rolling off the Bay of Fundy toward the Cobequid Highlands and by the time I arrived back in Parrsboro the fog horn was calling… a quick drive to the pier provided a few serene moments after a busy day.

May your day be filled with beauty and serenity. Best wishes, Anna

Geological Formation or Natural Ice Sculpture?

At the base of the cliff I came across this fascinating sculpture last week. It reminded me of a pre-historic creature and as I approached I expected it to grow wings to take flight at any moment.

It took getting up close and personal with it to realize that ice and pink Bay of Fundy mud were responsible for the unique shape. The relentless tides had shaped the sculpture and I know I was one of very few humans to witness it’s presence.

We have had a lot of rain and above zero Celsius temperatures since my discovery. Coupled with spring tides due to the moon phase I am venturing a guess that this unique ice creature no longer exists. Magical Bay of Fundy, ever-changing and keeping life so very interesting.

Happy Wednesday, Anna
