Lunar Eclipse

The Blood Moon Eclipse was well under way by the time we arrived at Partridge Island Beach this morning…

Getting out of the car was a challenge. The wind was howling as you can hear on the video.

We stayed until the moon set behind the cliffs and never saw it emerging after it was completely covered. What an experience!

Happy Tuesday! Best wishes, Anna

Hike Nova Scotia Field Leader Certification

There were eight of gathering across the Bay of Fundy in Wolfville this weekend. From a full day in the classroom to actively leading, presenting teachable moments on the trail, to building emergency shelters, it was an intense weekend. The lengthy exam concluded two packed days of hike leader training. Did I pass the exam? We shall find out soon!

I enjoyed it so much (despite pinched nerve and continuing shoulder pain) that I signed up for the winter leadership course at the end of the month! We had fantastic weather all weekend… it will most likely be a different story in three weeks.

Hope everyone had a rewarding weekend to recharge the batteries! Best wishes for a success-filled week, Anna

Evangeline Beach, Grand Pre, Nova Scotia

We stopped and camped near this amazing beach a little over four years ago. Yesterday we returned on our way to Wolfville and I realized that my love for the Bay of Fundy began here…

The view of Cape Blomidon is a mirror image to what the view is from Ottawa House Beach. I was standing directly across from Parrsboro. As the crow flies, home is only about 35 km away. It takes 3.5 hours travelling by car. In the good old days a ferry connected Wolfville ( just a few kilometres from Grand Pre) and Parrsboro. The ferry schedule was dependent on the tides, sailing twice a day.

It was low tide and I took a few minutes to admire this amazing beach up close and personal.

Wishing you all sunny days this weekend! Best wishes, Anna

Inspirational Reading

I could not pass by the bookshelf at Masstown Market without picking up this little treasure trove of inspiring passages earlier today!

I have to share the title and publication info between devouring Laurie Lacey’s relatable writings. Definitely worthwhile!

Happy Friday, my friends. Best wishes, Anna.

Delighting in Small Things

When a pinched nerve prevents regular beach hikes or even a simple walk through town one must delight in beauty close to home. The last two weeks have been a challenge… starting tomorrow I will have to get some help with this issue😊.

Enjoy my backyard view with me. Happy Sunday, Anna

A Glorious Pre-Halloween Saturday…

Two years ago we explored this area for the first time. It was our first day out of quarantine (remember those days?). We donned our masks and drove down shore to see what the Fundyshore has to offer.

The image above was taken this morning while reflecting on our great life here for the past couple of years. Masks are still a necessity to protect ourselves and friends from another spike in infections. We were so hopeful that the pandemic would be behind us within a few more months. Reality checks tell us otherwise. Let’s turn to more cheerful topics:

Today concludes the Ten Days in October Festival in Parrsboro. I was honoured to be one of two judges to select the most ghoulish and the most innovative pumpkin with my fellow judge Genna. Walkers-by had the task to cast their vote for people’s choice. The weather could not have been better for this mid-day event. I skipped the Houloween Celebration with Treasure Hunt at the Geological Museum. Instead we went for a drive and stopped at our favourite Antique Store in Great Village.

Oh the treasures on offer! I loved the old hand-painted, two-sided pub sign from England… unfortunately we have no place to display it… the poison and batwing tonic jars amused me… and the antique Peak Frean biscuit tin was too special to ignore. A pristine indigenous basket was another surprise discovery! The tin and basket now reside in our house🤗…

We arrived home at high tide and when I let the pups out for their run around the yard I could not help myself but capture the fall imagery. The tidal stream has been quite high these days, one step closer and I would have had wet toes.

We are off to the Hall for a Spooky Story-time. It promises to be a spooktacular event centering around a ghostly maiden and a sunken ship… perfect for this part of the country!

Wishing you all a fantastic Saturday, Anna.

Busy Spiders…

Those who know me well remember that I don’t carry a particular fondness for spiders… in the house. This year our autumn just continues to surprise us with warm temperatures and the outdoor spiders have been busy!

I decided to share a few of the images I gathered over the past month. Enjoy and all the best for a wonderful weekend, Anna

It’s a real treat…

…to live in the area labelled: the wild blueberry capital of Canada.

When we moved here we had no idea what these brightly coloured fields lining the roads were all about. Two years and a few days ago we travelled toward our destination ooohing and aaahing about the glowing reds guiding us toward Parrsboro. We soon learned that these are wild blueberry fields and they turn this colour after harvest.

I was in some need of colour therapy earlier so went for a short drive toward Diligent River, about 10 minutes from home. The trees might be bare and shrouded in mist but colour is far from disappearing. The images hardly do the vibrant reds and oranges justice but I think you get the idea.

Enjoy! Happy Wednesday, Anna

Rainy Day Impressions

On my walk to weekly writing group I thoroughly enjoyed the quiet nature of a misty fall day. Stopping for various discoveries, admiring them and trying to capture the moment I nearly arrived late!

The monochromatic landscape paired well with coloured contemplative discoveries along the way.

Enjoy and immerse yourselves. Best wishes, Anna

A Few of my All-time Favourites

I was asked to submit a few “nature images” to the Cliffs of Fundy GeoPark yesterday. I scoured my albums and these three stick out as my favourite captures thus far.

Hope you enjoy them as much as I do. May they set the tone for a fabulous week, Anna
