Environmental Textures

The day started out windy but with the promise of sunshine. By early afternoon we actually had some large snowflakes flying past the windows but the moisture soon turned to rain. Instead of exploring nature at one of the beaches I perused my vast image library and got “stuck” on these eye catching geological textures.Continue reading “Environmental Textures”

Lunar Eclipse

The Blood Moon Eclipse was well under way by the time we arrived at Partridge Island Beach this morning… Getting out of the car was a challenge. The wind was howling as you can hear on the video. We stayed until the moon set behind the cliffs and never saw it emerging after it wasContinue reading “Lunar Eclipse”

It’s a real treat…

…to live in the area labelled: the wild blueberry capital of Canada. When we moved here we had no idea what these brightly coloured fields lining the roads were all about. Two years and a few days ago we travelled toward our destination ooohing and aaahing about the glowing reds guiding us toward Parrsboro. WeContinue reading “It’s a real treat…”

Cape Sharpe Lighthouse

My friend Adrienne and I had planned this short hike a while ago. Our schedules lined up for this morning and it promptly started to rain at the agree pickup time. We persevered and by the time we arrived at the trailhead the rain had stopped. The rugged hiking trail is steep and I hadContinue reading “Cape Sharpe Lighthouse”

When the day begins a little foggy…

…it often rewards us with a touch of colour! May it brighten your Monday, wherever you are. Love and light, Anna

October Hike to Clarke Head…

Just in case you are new to my posts, I made a vow to myself late last December that I would return to Clarke Head once a month throughout 2022. I have kept that promise to myself and embarked on this beach hike at least once a month, some days alone and other days withContinue reading “October Hike to Clarke Head…”

Soley Cove Sea Stack Revisited

The weather yesterday afternoon was perfect for a little excursion. Soley Cove is a favourite destination. It was time to check up on the sea stack after Hurricane Fiona. Fiona definitely left her mark, the Soley Cove sea stack has “lost a little more weight” but the scenery always leaves me in awe… Best wishesContinue reading “Soley Cove Sea Stack Revisited”

It Beckoned From Afar…

‘What on earth could this be?’ I asked myself the other morning. These softball sized formations seemed out of place in the middle of the field. I had never seen such large puffball mushrooms. This variety is inedible but I had a chance to examine the surface closely and found it truly fascinating. The markingsContinue reading “It Beckoned From Afar…”

Partridge Island Hiking Trail Inspection

I am conducting a guided hike as part of Ottawa House-by-the-Sea Thanksgiving events. Yesterday I woke up realizing that I had not checked the trails after Fiona payed us a visit. So, after walking my dogs in town I headed over to Partridge Island to put my mind at ease. All is well on theContinue reading “Partridge Island Hiking Trail Inspection”

Marsh Bubbles…

The marsh near Partridge Island sits on top of ancient basalt beds. With each tide cycle we witness tiny bubbles emerging from the porous rocks. Ancient indigenous legends tell us that the spots where the water bubbles are Glooscap’s Grandmother’s Cooking Pots. No matter how often I witness this phenomenon I never grow tired ofContinue reading “Marsh Bubbles…”

Speechless at Sunset

We were winding down a belated birthday party for friends when the sky exploded with colour… on the way home I just had to swing by the Pier. Happy Friday evening, everyone!! Enjoy, Anna

Early Autumn Colours

I was very relieved today: we were out running some everyday errands when I decided to check on a place where the fall colours took my breath away last year. I am happy to report: There is colour among the trees! The prediction that Fiona’s “visit” last week would curtail the annual colour show weContinue reading “Early Autumn Colours”

Sparkles and Clouds…

It’s a glorious and sunny day here in Parrsboro. I just took my bike out for a spin around town. A brief stop near the pier across from the lighthouse was well timed to capture the sparkle on the water and impressive cloud formations above Blomidon. Happy Wednesday! Enjoy and best wishes, Anna

The Bay Beckons…

Afternoon tea at Ottawa House to honour the Queen’s memory behind me I met up with my friend and headed to the beach. Soothing sounds of waves and gulls soaring overhead provided the perfect backdrop to restore equilibrium. May your Monday evening offer an opportunity to relax and reset, Anna

Even in the rain…

…a hike to Clarke Head with first time visitors to Parrsboro is the perfect Sunday morning excursion. My friend and local B&B host sent a text first thing this morning to see if I had my day booked already. I was free. I checked the tide times and headed over to meet with visitors fromContinue reading “Even in the rain…”

Abuzz….

The invasive Japanese Knotweed is abuzz with bees and bumblebees before we get cooler weather. The green, lush bush is beautiful to look at but we forget about its destructive forces on the natural habitat. Still, I delight in the lacy flower sprigs and leaves illuminated by the morning sun. Happy Thursday, Anna

The Little Green Crab…

…that could. Green crabs are invasive and steadily making their way north. In Newfoundland, the fisheries are looking into ways to maximize their potential by creating new and innovative dishes. With water temperature rising globally I have noticed more green crabs along the Fundy beaches this summer. The image above was captured at Soley CoveContinue reading “The Little Green Crab…”
